Ice cream – you scream
…We all scream for Foie Gras Ice Cream! Yep.
Perhaps you’ve been strolling The Mission in San Francisco and come up upon a massively long line outside of what appears to be an ice cream shop, but you aren’t sure because you can’t really find any signage on or around the blue awnings. Well that’s at least how it was for Will and I. As two exhausted house hunters the idea of waiting in that line on that afternoon sounded pretty awful – so we left.
A month later, back in the mission – we deemed it time – time to visit Humphry Slocombe. I mean, who doesn’t want to be a part of the “IN” crowd – luckily the “in” crowd that night was tolerable.
You never know which flavors will be available when you visit Humphry Slocombe. It could be foie gras or black sesame seed ice cream or it could be Jesus juice sorbet. Made with organic dairy and [mostly] organic products, the flavor options all work to test our preconceived notions of what an ice cream flavor should be without letting us down – seriously. Just note you will need to come in with an open mind. You will be pleasantly surprised. Once you have arrived to the counter (a feeling compared to finally getting into the log at Splash Mountain) you thankfully can sample the flavors before making your choice. I enjoyed my tastes of butter beer and black sesame seed before settling on the people’s choice “Secret Breakfast” – bourbon ice cream with chocolate covered corn flakes. Yummy in my tummy.
Surrounded by a faithful and intrigued crowd, cheery scooping staff, a two-headed cow, good friends and a delicious “secret” ice cream, my first adventure at the Mission’s ‘coolest’ joint was pretty memorable
Happy 4th to you all, may you indulge in all the meat, alcohol and seed ice cream your tummies can take. It’s what our fore fathers would have wanted.
